T.Y. Lin International is seeking a Senior Construction Inspector (Bridges) to join our Atlanta, GA office. This position involves inspecting segmental bridges and conventional bridges for an Interstate Highway Interchange project in Birmingham, Alabama. The position also includes assisting with inspection activities to start, continue, and close-out this construction project at the project site and at the bridge casting yard.
The ideal candidate must be experienced in bridge construction inspection and will interact with the other inspection crews at the construction site. The individual will report directly to the Resident Engineer and is responsible for the supervision and direction of inspectors engaged in the daily bridge inspection activities at the project site. In addition to managing the inspectors assigned to the project, the senior bridge inspector will also inspect various aspects of the bridge work on the construction site and at the casting yard, performing continuous surveillance of assigned construction activities to ensure compliance with the contract documents, all applicable codes, standards, and specifications. Observes and documents nonconformance situations and change management events. Participates in the determination of appropriate resolution for each situation and event. Responsible for quality assurance and conformity of all records produced by the construction inspection staff as required by the contract for construction inspection services for the bridges.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Review shop drawings, construction means and methods, and operation construction procedures.
Coordinates activities with onsite inspectors and inform Resident Engineer of construction progress and problem areas.
Perform contract documentation duties, which may include field measurements of pay items as well as daily progress reports.
Coordinate material testing, review contractor submittals, requests for information, and coordinate with the contractor.
Provide technical supervision and assistance to Resident Engineer.
Must be able to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and shop drawings.
Must have strong time management skills and attention to detail.
Be thoroughly familiar with construction-related processes and means and methods.
Must be able to communicate complex site conditions in simple terms.
Must have computer skills including knowledge of MS Word, Excel, data entry and scheduling programs.
Monitor construction schedules and review progress
Provide on-site visual inspection of construction projects and verify compliance with contract documents
Familiar with drilled and driven piles
Familiar with shoring and excavation
Coordinate material testing
Investigate and resolve project issues
Coordinate utility involvement
Coordinate traffic restrictions
Familiar with post-tensioned concrete bridge construction
Familiar with segmental bridge construction
Other duties as assigned
Requires a minimum 5 years of construction inspection on bridge projects, including segmental bridges.
