Walter T. Gorman, P.E., P.C. is looking for a qualified sprinkler designer to join our engineering company. Strong working knowledge of NYC Building Code Chapter 9, NFPA 13, and NFPA 14 is a must. NYS Licensed engineer is preferred but not required.
Meet with clients to discuss projects
Prepare design proposals
Perform field surveys to ensure design is appropriate for structure
Design automatic sprinkler systems (wet, dry and pre-action) including fire pumps, tanks, and all components using AutoCAD
Design standpipe systems
Perform hydraulic calculations for each design using software
Prepare submittal packages to send to NYC Department of Buildings
Assist contractor with design related installation issues
Review contractor submittals
Inspect project during and after construction
BS in Mechanical Engineering (or related engineering discipline) plus 8 years of experience in related field or Associates Degree in fire protection or mechanical engineering and 10 years of experience.
BUILDING CODE REQUIREMENTS
Sprinkler designer/engineer must have in depth knowledge and practical experience with NYC Building Code Chapter 9 related to sprinkler and standpipe, NFPA 13, NFPA 14 and industry standards. Broad knowledge of all NYC Building Codes is a plus.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD or similar CAD software, working knowledge of creating and modifying 3D objects in a CAD environment, working knowledge of Microsoft Office. Knowledge of using hydraulic calculations software is required. Experience with HAAS software is a plus.
