This position performs professional level traffic engineering under the direction of the City Transportation Engineer. Preference will be given to candidates with substantial experience in traffic operation and the design of signing, striping and traffic calming plans. However, broad experience in Municipal traffic engineering is also desirable. The classification title for this position is Project Engineer 1.
Provide professional civil engineering calculations for various project components
Investigate and respond to traffic requests including neighborhood traffic calming, school safety and parking analysis
Review traffic impacts for city projects and private development
Work with residents on developing traffic calming plans
Review and approve traffic control plans submitted by contractors
Coordinate with other departments during development review and with inspectors/field staff during construction
Manage assigned engineering related projects
Prepare and present reports to the Beaverton Traffic Commission
Represent the city to the public, to other organizations or entities and in other situations as required
Communicate confidently and effectively, both orally and in writing
Support and respect diversity in the workplace

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field
Five years of engineering experience with focus on municipal public works design, plan review, and construction inspection
Two years of project management experience
Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in Oregon or the ability to attain the professional license within a year (for out of state applicants only)
Valid driver's license and the ability to meet the city's driving standards
Ability to pass reference and background check
