This position will assist the Senior Engineer Track Design in the design of track projects including switch and interlocking systems, and creating plans for track maintenance. Assist in the analysis of data to prioritize maintenance and Capital work. The programs shall maintain the track infrastructure in a state of good repair throughout Metro-North Railroad (MNR) territory.
Assist in the design of track related systems such as switch replacements and new interlockings.
Assist in the analysis of track data and assist the maintenance forces to locate the defects, and track the repair of defects.
Organize and maintain data to identify trends for forecasting future needs.
Coordinate projects with department managers to ensure maximum productivity and efficiency.
Demonstrated knowledge of civil engineering geometry and site design and layout.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong decision making skills.
Strong project management and coordination skills which includes quality control and quality assurance measures.
Proficient in AutoCAD, Microstation, civil software design, and analysis packages.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and/or comparable PC applications.
Available and on call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week as required.
Must have a valid driver's license.
New York State and Connecticut Professional Engineering License or ability to gain reciprocity.
Fundamentals of Engineering Certificate (EIT).
Knowledge of Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations and American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) standards
Knowledge railroad operations.
Construction management experience.
Associate's Degree, Bachelor of Science, or Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering and/or related engineering field from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) school.
Minimum of 1 (one) year of experience in civil engineering design and site layout with responsibility for a function or staff.
This is a safety sensitive position and subject to toxicological testing.
