Electrical - Research and Development, Electrical Engineering
The Embedded Controls Research Engineer reports to the Engineering Manager and is responsible for creating new controls strategies and systems for new and improved precision instruments for testing, quality control and measurement equipment for the highway and construction industries. This position will be responsible for the conception of new ways to address existing and new markets with electronics and embedded software architectures.
The Embedded Controls Research Engineer will be a part of a small research team of scientists, engineers, and technicians, and be expected to perform well in a team environment, as well as taking on the role of leader for individual projects.
Duties and Responsibilities
•Architectural design of embedded systems including selection of microcontroller and design of basic peripheral analog and digital circuitry
•Writing, debugging, and testing custom software and firmware for embedded systems
•Develop hardware and software for using low level software components, RTOS, drivers, and communication systems
•PCB layout and schematic capture
•Experience using software development test tools such as scopes, bus analyzers, ICEs, debuggers, and data recorders
•Design system prototypes
•Experience specifying and purchasing prototypes, tools and equipment
•Up to 10% travel required
•Document and communicate internally and externally -Schedules, plans, results, and solutions
•Coordination with NPD engineers to facilitating the smooth transition of concepts to commercialized products
•Review and evaluation of prior art in the form of patents, technical publications and product literature
•Creation of technical publications and presentations of findings at technical and trade events
•Writing, editing and publication of patent and other intellectual property for the company

Education and Experience
•PhD in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Controls Engineering
•Significant product development experience, spanning full product life cycles
•10+ years relevant technical experience in a manufacturing environment
•Must have experience in electronics laboratory and be familiar with basic mechanical and electrical issues involved in constructing prototype designs from a schematic
