This is professional engineering work in the design and review of a wide variety of engineering projects. Performs assignments designed to develop professional work knowledge and abilities, requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks. Job requires the exercise of independent judgment in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives. Using prescribed methods performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer. Applies standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjusts and correlates data, recognizes discrepancies in results, and follows operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes. Supervisor screens assignments for unusual or difficult problems and selects techniques and procedures to be applied on non-routine work. Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.
Regular Attendance and Punctuality is an essential requirement of the job.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum, or equivalent, plus appropriate continuing education; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
Job Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Knowledge of the principles and practices of engineering as applied to the design and construction of a variety of public and private works.
Knowledge of engineering and some basic survey.
Knowledge of established policies, procedures, and regulations.
Ability to adapt approved engineering methods and standards to the design and construction of a variety of county public and private works.
Skill in the use of engineering computer aided drafting and design.
Ability to express ideas effectively orally and in writing.
Engineer II is distinguished from Engineer I by the greater experience required; by the need for an incumbent to possess a certificate as an Engineer Intern or an Engineer-In-Training.
