The City of Lancaster is currently seeking a Director of Public Works to manage an annual budget of more than $60 million and lead a staff of over 200 employees responsible for delivering core transportation and street maintenance services; improving and maintaining all parks and public facilities; and ensuring timely maintenance and upgrades to aging infrastructure. The Director of Public Works also manages the City’s Water and Wastewater utilities in accordance with licensing requirements established by Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission; and Stormwater Management and Green Infrastructure programs aimed at preserving and protecting water resources in the Chesapeake Bay watershed region.
The Director is a member of the Mayor’s Executive Team appointed by the Mayor.

The City of Lancaster is seeking candidates with at least 10 years of professional civil engineering experience of which 7 years shall have been in the field of public works design and/or , municipal services including 4 years in a management capacity. Experience managing and leading an interdisciplinary team that works within and beyond the City with a large variety of stakeholders is essential. Candidates should also possess strong leadership, interpersonal, problem solving, and decision making skills. A Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field, or a combination of a degree and equivalent experience is required. A Professional Engineer license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is preferred.
