Overview / Responsibilities*

Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions (Wood E&IS) is recruiting a Project Manager for our Civil Engineering group in Durham, NC. This individual will be part of our Infrastructure Design Service Line that supports our industrial and municipal clientele. The position relies heavily on a team leadership skills and technical qualities within the power sector. As a Project Manager, you will be responsible for driving project success in the following areas: client satisfaction, financial metrics, schedule, scope, team coordination, maintaining client relationships and technical excellence. The successful candidate will have a strong desire to build and grow our talented professionals into thriving consultants.

Key Responsibilities:

• Engage in team mentoring and be mentored
• Establish succinct career paths for all staff for the Charlotte Civil Engineering team
• Build on existing five (5) year vision for the team and take ownership of driving team success
• Balance volume of work relative to number of staff (and deadlines) and adjust accordingly
• Assist team with Business Development activities by ‘Doing Good Work’ and maintain client contacts
• Perform Independent Technical Reviews of scope and fee prepared by Charlotte staff
• Provide technical collaboration to all projects within the group
• Remain a technical liaison for all civil work
• Perform Independent Technical Review, on work performed by others, as a part of our Quality Control program
• Enforce corporate / office health and safety procedures
• Prepare scope of work and costing documents for proposals
• Know and understand various Agencies of Jurisdiction and associated rules and guidelines
• Provide project leadership and orchestrating team efforts to execute a prescribed scope of work on time and within budget.
• Various traditional Project Management functions (project metrics) and lead client meetings

Skills / Qualifications*

The individual is expected to have:

• B.S. in Civil Engineering
• 5 - 10+ years of professional engineering experience, and a minimum of three years successfully managing projects
• Licensed Professional Engineer in North Carolina
• Demonstrated leadership in a team atmosphere
• Ability to coordinate efforts in multi - disciplined work
• Time management skills to monitor project’s critical path
• Perform routine monitoring of a project’s financial health and adjust team’s efforts accordingly
• Report “Estimate to Complete” effort remaining on a project for staff scheduling procedures
• Ability to recognize a project’s critical path
• Excellent negotiation skills with clients for out - of - scope items
• Follow Wood procedures for contract review
• Adhere to corporate / office standards for safety and quality of work
• Set a high standard for product excellence
• Strong collaboration and communication skills
• Experience preparing work scopes and draft proposals
• Take ownership of civil engineering designs completed by the team as the Engineer of Record
• Working knowledge of common Civil Engineering software tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, SWMM, HEC - RAS, EPANET 2), although proficiency is not required
