The City of Geneva Public Works Department is accepting applications for a full-time Manager of Electric Operations. The position manages the operation and maintenance of the City of Geneva Municipal Electric Utility generation, substations, SCADA, metering, fiber, utility line clearance tree trimming program, outages, co-generation and interconnections and related customer complaints to provide safe, reliable and efficient electric and data service to the customers of the City of Geneva. This position reports to the Superintendent of Electric Services and is responsible for crew management, capacity and reliability planning and project management.
The City of Geneva Electric Division is responsible for providing all electrical service needs to the 11,000 customers in the Geneva City limits. To accomplish this, the City is a member of Northern Illinois Municipal Power Agency (NIMPA), which owns approximately 7% of the Prairie State Generation Campus output. This arrangement meets 1/3 of the City’s energy requirements. In addition, the City owns and operates 30MW of natural gas fired generation using low emission, lean-burn RICE prime movers. The balance of the energy requirement is fulfilled through Purchase Power Agreements and market contracts. The city is located in the PJM interconnection.
The Electric Division prides itself on the continued reliability of Geneva’s system. This system performance is accomplished through a robust cable replacement, system maintenance and tree trimming program. When there is an outage, the Electric Division works as a team to quickly restore affected customers.
In addition to the electric infrastructure, the Division operates and maintains the City’s Fiber Optic Network, consisting of 24 miles of fiber optic cable. This infrastructure is used to support local government activities as well as linking educational facilities within the city.
Electric Division staff oversee the Division annual budget, crafted to provide reliable power at the lowest possible cost. The budget includes funds for power supply, construction, maintenance and operating expenses. Along with managing the current year budget, all Division staff contribute to annual budget planning, through the annual budget process, and the long range 10-year capital project planning as a division goal.

Minimum qualifications for this position include a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of five years related experience including management and direct supervision of non-exempt employees, power generation experience desirable, or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. The successful applicant must reside within a 12 mile radius of the City of Geneva within one year of employment and possess a valid driver’s license.
Additional Salary Information: Salary range for this position is $95,298 to $138,183. Anticipated hiring range up to $116,741 depending on qualifications.
