The Product Steward/TSCA Specialist is responsible for developing and administrating programs applying specialized knowledge related to the Production, Storage, and Safe Handling of specialty chemical products’ regulatory requirements. This role will be accountable for developing and maintaining global product classifications. The Product Steward provides technical support to product lines to commercialize new and amended registered chemical products, minimize time to market, and ensure continued compliance. This role contributes to the development and maintenance of applicable chemical compliance management documents and training materials, including in the development of the Chemical Stewardship Management System that meets the needs of company standards and jurisdictional regulatory requirements.

Job Responsibilities

• Assesses, evaluates and develops effective management systems for BSC’s TSCA, LVE, and PMN Regulatory processes. Develops an actionable roadmap to address any deficiencies in these programs and processes. Once established, ensures that existing and new product introductions comply with the TSCA program and monitor ongoing sales and product life cycles.
• Identifies and communicates compliance with emerging regulations in the areas of sustainability, TSCA, LVE, and PMN Regulations, related to product safety, product footprint, and sustainable design to the BSC Leadership Team.
• Coordinates activities with other departments to develop and manufacture products that can be produced, used and disposed of safely in compliance with all BSC Practices, Policies, and applicable Regulations
• Files necessary compliance applications and communicate with relevant parties. Manages periodic renewal process for ongoing certifications and licenses.
• Anticipates, communicates, and manages regulatory changes with respect to existing regulations that may impact existing product lines and benefit new product introduction.
• Serves as primary author of SDSs and product labels using “Chemwatch”, including developing SDSs and labels for new products, revising SDSs and labels for existing products, in support of customers’ business needs.
• Determines hazard classifications in (SDS SYSTEM) in accordance with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS).
• Prepares data and documents required by government, third party, and other authoritative bodies to support product registration, reporting, and other regulatory activities within a region or area of specialty chemicals. Collaborates with R&D, Sales, Production, and Process Safety & Development team members to evaluate and minimize risk and to drive compliance of existing products lines, changes, and innovation projects supporting chemical stewardship.
• Responds to internal and external compliance requests and complete required compliance documentation.
• Coordinates with 3rd-party testing agencies for product testing necessary for applicable filings.
• Ensures product packaging and labeling complies with federal and state standards.
• Assists suppliers with administration of audit programs. Assists key suppliers with remediation and corrective actions.
• Identifies and manages risks in the product life cycle. Understands potential product use and misuse (occupational, consumer, diversion, etc.) and works across the function to complete appropriate risk assessments and establishing mitigation plans.
• Manages responses to customer enquiries regarding product safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline such as chemistry, engineering, biology, industrial hygiene, toxicology, ecotoxicology, or related filed.

Experience

At least five years’ experience:

Interpreting codes and regulations to implement systems related to National Chemical Inventories (EINECS, DSL, etc.); experience with Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) and implementing regulations required

Demonstrated proficiency with authoring SDSs

Working collaboratively with cross-functional teams on GHS regulations, including but not limited to the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard 2012 (29 CFR 1910.1200), Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System

• Ability to maintain high standards of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Proactive, polished, independent, technically competent, assertive, well-spoken, and proven ability to successfully perform in high-pressure environments.
• Excellent delivery, collaboration, and problem resolution skills.
• Strong technical experience and excellent client relations skills.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be keyboarding for extended periods of time. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. The employee will be occasionally visiting manufacturing areas, prep areas, and storage facilities that require the use of PPE.
