Be part of the next revolution in computing! Join Microsoft’s Azure Quantum team and solve customer problems using new algorithms and computing hardware. Our mission is to develop computing systems to solve currently unsolvable problems. We are looking for an exceptional researcher to create state of the art optimization algorithms and apply them to customer problems.

Deploy new algorithms for currently intractable problems in mathematical optimization, operations research, and mathematical modelling. Work directly with customers. Research and develop the next generation of optimization algorithms exceeding present day state of the art.

Our team is collaborative and interdisciplinary. You will work closely with a diverse team within Microsoft that brings together mathematicians, physicists, and software engineers. By bringing together a unique combination of knowledge and skillsets, as well as cutting edge hardware, we build novel solutions to the world’s hardest and most impactful computational problems. This role will be ideal for candidates who enjoy continually learning about new computational problems and new algorithmic techniques.

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years' experience (academic or industry) in mathematical optimization and the discovery, design, and implementation of advanced optimization algorithms.
  • Advanced degree in operations research, mathematics, physics, computer science, or a related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working across organizational boundaries and in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Experience working directly with customers to solve complex computational problems.
  • Strong knowledge of C++ programming and modern software engineering practices.
