The SCA’s Architecture and Engineering Department is responsible for development of scope, design, and construction documents for new school buildings, additions, lease conversions and renovation work of existing schools for New York City’s 1.1 million students. Our projects are intentionally and thoughtfully designed; positive impact design is at the forefront of all our projects.

Our In-House studio is a multidisciplinary practice that is responsible for designing some of the largest and most complex schools in our 1,500+ school portfolio. Our other two studios manage external consultants from design inception to completion.  Our three studios are comprised of talented architects and engineers who are driven to deliver high quality custom designed, sustainable, and resilient public schools.

The Associate HVAC – Engineer will function as a team member under the supervision of a team leader to prepare scope and design documents for HVAC systems in school buildings, including drawings and specifications.

Responsibilities Include:

Associate HVAC Engineer – A: Accountable for the scope, design, and post occupancy of projects in the HVAC discipline for the Authority. Assist in conducting site surveys and prepare field reports, punch lists, and deficiency reports of HVAC Systems to facilitate design decisions that meet the standards of NYCSCA. Assist in the preparation and peer review of construction documents of HVAC Systems as part of the design phase of projects. (Reso-A, CIP's and Line projects). Assist or lead in the preparation of scope reports for CIP-s and Reso-A projects of HVAC Systems and assist in reviewing contractor bids and submittals to verify they meet the minimum standards and specifications of the SCA. Assist in monitoring the progress of the construction phase of the project HVAC Systems. Assist in addressing requests for information.

Associate HVAC Engineer – B: Facilitates and supports defining project scopes and designs on projects in reference to HVAC Systems. Review scope reports and construction documents that have been submitted to ensure they conform to all applicable SCA standards, specifications, building codes, laws, agency requirements, etc. and document deviations. Conduct site surveys, prepare field reports, punch lists, and deficiency reports of HVAC Systems to facilitate design decisions that meet the standards of NYCSCA. Visually observe all aspects of substantially completed work at a construction site using design drawings to determine if a contractor has met all the requirements of the project. Create the design drawings and specification intent for contractual construction documents of HVAC Systems. Coordinate site assignments with third party surveyors and contractors, determine existing conditions, prepare logs. Edits the content of design drawings and specifications under the direction of seniors and writes bulletins. Compares conditions at the construction site to contract drawings and specifications during site visits/field observations at the site to assess the progress and quality of work. May perform duties of Associate Engineer - A.

Minimum Qualifications:

REQUIRES HVAC EXPERIENCE FOR ALL LEVELS.

• Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university program in Architecture, and:

Level A: One year of full-time experience in architectural work, or a satisfactory combination of education and experience; or a satisfactory combination of education and experience.

Level B: Two years of full-time experience serving as an Associate Engineer - A or a satisfactory combination of education and experience.

Salary:

Level A: $59,835 - $93,250

Level B: $63,788 - $103,210
