This individual will provide strategic vision, academic leadership, and administrative oversight for the School’s teaching, research, and service missions.
The individual will foster an inclusive and collaborative environment that promotes excellence in interdisciplinary research, high-quality education, and industry and community engagement. Responsibilities include faculty and staff development and hiring, student success initiatives, curriculum innovation, fiscal and operational management, and advancing the School’s national and international reputation.
The Department Head will work closely with university leadership, external partners, and alumni to strengthen research funding, expand graduate and undergraduate programs, and cultivate opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurship. Candidates must have a distinguished record of scholarly achievement and demonstrated leadership.
This is a full-time, 12-month appointment, 5-year term, tenured full-professor faculty position, reporting directly to the Dean of the Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering.

The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date of July 1, 2026. The department will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

Required Job Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Biomedical, Biological, and/or Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field
- Demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching appropriate for appointment as a tenured, full professor
Preferred Job Qualifications:
- Potential to effectively lead and evaluate the faculty and staff comprising the School
- Demonstrated ability to establish a well-funded research program and potential to play a leadership role in facilitating interdisciplinary research
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching and ability to play a leadership role in facilitating educational innovation
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to bring people together on new initiatives

The School of Biomedical and Chemical Engineering at CSU is recognized both nationally and internationally for its research, education, and service and outreach programs and combines two pre-existing programs that were both ranked in the top 70 nationally in the US. The SBCE is an interdisciplinary program comprising 32 faculty, 13 research associates/scientists, and 9 administrative professionals serving 600 graduate and undergraduate students at Colorado State University formed in 2025 by the merger of Chemical & Biological Engineering and Biomedical Engineering programs. The total annual research expenditures for the School exceed $8M. SBCE at Colorado State University is a highly interdisciplinary unit integrating faculty expertise across engineering, health, natural sciences, and veterinary medicine and with a strong focus on advancing health, bioscience, and sustainability through cutting-edge research and education. The department offers innovative undergraduate and graduate programs in biomedical engineering and chemical engineering and hands-on research opportunities within state-of-the-art facilities, preparing students for impactful careers in academia, medicine, and industry. THE WALTER SCOTT, JR. COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING
The Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering (WSCOE) is a medium-sized engineering college of approximately 170 faculty, 300 postdoctoral scholars and research scientists, 95academic and administrative staff, 2,500 undergraduate students, and 1,050 graduate students. Four of its academic departments serve both graduate and undergraduate students, and two have graduate-only programs. The College also houses two interdisciplinary degree-granting programs and a federal cooperative research institute.
WSCOE is ranked 6th nationally in research funding per faculty among public universities without medical schools in the annual amount of about $600,000 per FTE and has received major research awards representing the CSU thematic focus areas. WSCOE’s researchers are engaged in inter- and transdisciplinary research, with collaborations that involve every other college at CSU and universities and companies around the world. The College’s annual research expenditures are around $100M, with per faculty research expenditures that exceed those of most peer institutions and that represent a large fraction (approximately 20%) of CSU’s total funded research activity. This output, and WSCOE’s focus on addressing societal needs, is also reflected in the large number of invention disclosures, patents, and licenses generated by college researchers.
Today, the Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering prides itself on “hands-on”, experiential approaches to a rigorous undergraduate engineering education. Curricula include extensive laboratory and team-based coursework, and students have access to research opportunities throughout their programs. The College has devoted considerable attention to positive experiences for undergraduate students, including engagement in research and support for students whose academic backgrounds have incompletely prepared them for engineering.
